Growing up in Chicago there are a few names that always come to mind Frankie Knuckles, Farley “Jackmaster” Funk, Chip E., Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, but Jesse Saunders’ name is always on that short list. His name would be everywhere on event flyers all across the U.S. He is a true house music pioneer.
What a blessing it must have been to grow up in Chicago among all the greats. Jesse always speaks highly of Chicago. We could only imagine what it would have been like in the mid to late 80’s as the music was emerging.
Jesse is one of the originators. He’s also one of the most genuine people I’ve ever met in real life. I met him in Chicago in the ’80s when I was running one of the record pools and deejaying in the city. I hold him in high regard to this day.
